INTRODUCTION

 VRD stands for (voltage reduction device) OR WESH GUARD. When a VRD is fitted to a welding machine it reduces the maximum unloaded open circuit voltage

across  the output terminals of the welder to a safe 
voltage normally this reduced voltage When Off OCV
 sensing voltage  Is About 12v to 20v When a load of
 less than 200 ohms resistance is applied to the output of the welding
machine the VRD will sense this and turn the 
welder to full output then welding will commence.
When the resistance across the output rises above 200 ohms or the
electrode is removed from the work piece then the VRD will turn the
output of the welder back to a reduced output state.

VRD FOR GENERETOR WELDING SET
In the motor generator welding set the motors runs in the delta connection when welding is going on. The machine remains in same mode of connection even thought welding activity is stopped. Thus, a great amount of energy is wasted .
Auto welds senses the stoppage of welding and converts the machine to star connection within a predetermined time. This directly gives about one third energy saving. If the motors runs star connection for a predetermine time it cuts off the machine and saves even more power.
When the electrodes comes in contact with the job when the motor is in star, It instantly converts the connection from star to delta and  the welding process can be continued. (With same quality)
The amount of energy save depends upon the KW rating and quality of machine . 

VRD FOR WELDING RECTIFIER TRANSFORMER
 In a welding transformer or rectifier , the primary
   winding of the transformer is always energized .even if welding is not going on the machine always draws some current from the supply to meet the no load losses. this energy is not utilized for any productive purpose . hence, it is a waste
Auto weld senses the stoppage in welding and cuts off the supply to the primary winding
    Within a predetermined time. “auto weld” re energizes
    the primary winding instantly without affecting the welding  quality as soon as the electrode comes in contact with the job
Auto weld can be used effectively  in conjunction with transformer /rectifier of any capacity & make .the amount of energy saved  depend upon the KVA rating & the quality
